Exciting news

The lab was able to examine the biopsies from Tuesday and it appears Eric's intestines have made significant progress in healing. This is unexpected and great news. The doctor said there were some areas that even appear fully healed and normal.

With this good news, the doctors think Eric can probably tolerate food. They are planning on starting him back on a trickle of Elecare tomorrow via NG tube. It is still possible that there are bacteria sitting dormant in his digestive track and feeding him will stir them up. If that does happen, they already have a plan all lined up.

They have also made some progress in getting closer to finding a cause of all this. They have discovered a mutation in Eric's alpha-6 integrins. We're not yet sure what that means or what long term consequences it has, but we hope to find out more over the next few weeks.

In the comic books, mutations always give heros or villians really cool powers. Eric just got diarrhea. I'm not sure if there is a way to use that power for good. I hope he doesn't join the dark side.

Eric weighed 5.09kg this morning.

Seriously, Amy can work with Jenni on a cape, but we need further direction. We looked for poo-colored yarn but had trouble finding the right shade.
