has lost the majority of his excess fluids. We are hoping he can keep
this up and be taken off the ventilator in a few days.
Today they removed the catheter from his femoral artery they were
using to measure his blood pressure. They also removed the IV from the
other side of his groin that was put in before his bone marrow
transplant. Both of these lines had a high risk of infection since
they were in his diaper area and hard to keep clean and dry. He was
really lucky not to have any problems with them. Since his immune
system is still regrowing, a minor infection can be very dangerous.
They were able to stop the lasix drug that helps him shed water. His
kidneys are doing a good job on their own and they don't want him to
dry out too fast.

As your birthday approaches on the 28th, Eric, I marvel at what a miracle you are. You have baffled doctors in some of the best hospitals around. You have powered through amazingly tough situations in your short little life. Your parents have exhibited uncanny strength and grace advocating and caring for you. We are all very proud to have Nikki and David in our family. Even Wesley at 2 and 1/2 knows how special you are. "Baby Eric." On this first anniversary of your birth may you take a huge step forward towards the good health you deserve and that so many of us seem to take for granted. Love, Grandma Chris
