this morning. The doctors aren't exactly sure what caused it all to
start, but at about 3:30am Eric stopped breathing. His heartrate went
very low and they called a code (blue). They had to start chest
compressions. It took just six minutes for them to get him intubated
and breathing. They gave him atropine to get his heart going again.
Eric seemed stable for most of the day. They did a ct scan to see if
they were missing anything that could have caused this. The best guess
it seems is that his belly is so swollen that he could hardly get a
breath in. He is such a strong fighter that he was able to power
through this for a few days without any major signs of distress. Last
night he eventually got so tired he just couldn't manage anymore.
This evening his condition deteriorated again. The ventilator wasn't
able to provide him with enough support and his oxygen level was low.
The were unable to measure his blood pressure and his heartrate was
swinging up and down. It took about 4 hours and a half dozen doctors,
but they were finally able to get a line into his femoral artery to
measure his blood pressure. In the meantime they had to pump him full
of drugs to keep his blood pressure up.
He is stable now and they have been able to ween him down on the drugs
that keep his blood pressure up. The ventilator is doing a good job of
breathing for him and his heartrate is good.

So sorry that Eric is having such a tough time. I will continue to pray for him as well as you, his parents to give you strength. David, your parents were with us on Wed for my husband's funeral and said they were going to see you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love, Barb
