medication to keep him relaxed. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it
ishaving a tube going through your mouth and into your lungs. After a
while your body builds up some tolerance to the narcotics and the dose
has to be increased.
The doctors have started a discussion regarding a longer term strategy
around Eric's respiration. He has spent about half the time over the
last few months on the ventilator. Typically if a ventilator is used
for that amount of time it is customary to perform a tracheostomy. For
Eric there is some additional risk and considerations so this is not
likely to be an easy decision.
