lines. He has an IV in his hand they are going to use for the next few
days.
They tried very hard to get a second IV line, but after 14 months of
needles, Eric just doesn't have any good veins left. This limits the
drugs and nutrition they give him the next few days. IV's like the
one in his hand are not as reliable, so we have to hope that it lasts
long enough for high infection to clear.
After a few days, if all his blood cultures are clear, they are going
to surgery to put in a new central line. So we have our fingers
crossed and our hoping for a couple of smooth days.

I am sure this is way scarier than you are making it sound. We all are doing much more than keeping our fingers crossed!
